Naxos Works Database (NWDB) is the brainchild of Mr. Klaus Heymann, Naxos’ founding Chairman, Owner, and consultant for the project.
The website was developed in 2013 and was launched in 2015. Jonathan Irons, Naxos Works Database's Business Owner, is continuously working with the in-house team of musicology specialists to increase the site’s content in order to provide the richest works information database. Currently, Naxos Works Database has 70,000 works from different composers, and more is added every day targeting to reach a 100,000 works all with complete information from different publishers all over the world.
As of now NWDB contains only work information (i.e. encyclopedia of works) and does not have audio samples. All data provided on the site is driven by the core records on our music database, and is maintained by a highly-specialised team in our Music Department. There is a plan to add music excerpts (audio) in the future, incorporating tracks from our sister site, Naxos Music Library (NML).
